Managing SIP Trunking and Voice 2.0

By Kelly McGuire, TMCnet Editor

SIP trunking and premise-based IP-PBX (News - Alert) equipment serve the dynamic needs of the SMB and SoHo user, especially in a depressed economy where small businesses are re-evaluating infrastructure costs while trying to also maintain business process, continuity and ease-of-use for staff.

Thanks to new telephony products like SIP trunking and IP-PBX, affordability, reliability and the DIY simplicity create new age telecom products beneficial for all industry outlets.

At TMC’s (News - Alert) ITEXPO West, a session titled, “Enterprise Class Telephony for the SMB,” to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 9:30 a.m., will discuss these new telephony products and how companies looking to financially cut back in a recession can stay on top of, and in tune with, the telecom industry.

Jon Arnold (News - Alert), principal of J. Arnold & Associates, a telecom industry professional, who recently partnered with TMC to form the first Smart Grid Summit conference at ITEXPO, will be moderator of this session.

“SMB is a huge market opportunity for IP telephony, and we’ll have some great examples showing the range of options available and how there are workable solutions for any type of network environment,” said Arnold.

For the Wednesday session, panel speakers will be top executives from PBX Central, Cbeyond and Jazinga (News - Alert) who will join Arnold in this discussion.
Arnold will also be moderating “When Voice Meets Web 2.0” on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 1:00 p.m., will discuss the evolution of voice communications, namely the concept of Voice 2.0, and ways to manage a company’s social network.

The session will look at “Voice 2.0,” or how voice and data technologies are merging to serve businesses and lifestyles in ways never before possible. This includes innovative start-ups offering new ways to manage social networks, schedule conference calls, avoid long-distance fees and navigate phone menus.

During the Voice 2.0 session, Arnold said, “we’ll explore how voice is adding value to Web services, and making the network convergence story stronger.”

“This will be a great session for anyone looking to understand how these worlds are coming together and to hear first-hand about some of the leading examples being used today.”

The Thursday session will include panel speakers from Alteva (News - Alert), Fonolo and HBN, Inc.
