Siemens (News - Alert) Communications’ HiPath 8000 is a SIP standards-based real-time IP
system for very large enterprises that require carrier class reliability, survivability, and scalability. Designed for enterprises with up to hundreds of thousands of users (100,000 users per node and unlimited users per network), the HiPath 8000 SIP Softswitch supports industry standards, including SIP, MGCP and open application standards such as SIP, SOAP/ XML
and CSTA and employs an IT/data center centralized model ideally suited for distributed environments.
Because the HiPath 8000 is a carrier-class system, it has survivability and reliability that exceeds the typical customer premise equipment (CPE) solution, including failover of 'active-active' clustered server nodes, active/standby Fast Ethernet links and crossover network connections.
Three Media Server options are available according to the capacity required: (1) the internal 100-port HiPath Media server that is integrated into the system server hardware for enterprises of up to 5,000 subscribers, (2) the external 150-port HiPath Media Server for mid-size enterprises of up to 8,000 subscribers per server or 100,000 users with multiple servers and (3) the 50- to 300-port Radisys CMS-1000 Media Server which supports up to 15,000 users per server or 100,000 users with multiple servers.
At CeBIT (News - Alert) 2007, Siemens quietly announced new Version 3.0 enhancements that address user and network capabilities and improve application interworking, security and system manageability – functionality that is critical to enterprises looking to improve productivity, collaboration and responsiveness among employees, while lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO
). Siemens reports that an independent study showed the HiPath 8000’s centralized operation model resulted in a 15-25 percent lower TCO than other distributed IP-PBXs used in the study.
Businesses that deploy the HiPath 8000 will benefit from a wide variety of productivity applications from Siemens, including Xpressions unified messaging, ProCenter contact center, the MobileConnect Fixed Mobile Convergence (News - Alert) solution and the Web-based HiPath 8000 Assistant for administration. (SIP-based third party applications are also compatible.)
Notable is Siemens’ OpenScape unified communications solution for managing real-time communications. Recently Siemens elevated “OpenScape” from a product name to an “umbrella” or portfolio name and added compatibility with the company’s HiPath 8000 SIP Softswitch. OpenScape makes it easy for users to manage their communications using a Web interface, resulting in improved business productivity as colleagues and customers are able to reach people more efficiently.
Siemens’ OpenStage family of SIP telephones feature advanced functionality such as “push to conference” and presence-based calling, while standards like Java, HTML
, WML and XML enable support for customizable third-party applications. The top end models feature color displays and Bluetooth compatibility, as well as the TouchGuide touch sensitive wheel for access to the phone’s menu, the TouchSlider to control volume and pre-set and programmable keys for address book, voicemail, conferencing and speed dial, for example. Dialing with voice commands is also an option for the high-end models.
Siemens develops a range of HiPath communications systems for any size business. See the snapshot below and, for more details on the Siemens HiPath family, visit www.telecomtactics.com or http://communications.usa.siemens.com,
