Enfora's Mobile Tracking Tool to Ease Transportation at Olympics

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Enfora (News - Alert) today announced that its mobile tracking platform will be used to increase the transportation “efficiency, safety and manageability” for visiting dignitaries, volunteers and spectators during the Beijing Olympic Games.

The company, working with its partner RCG China, a subsidiary of RCG Holdings, has provided the core communications technology supporting an end-to-end mobile tracking application.

According to Enfora officials, the tracking application helps surveillance and location based services with various leased vehicles, city taxis and the Audi vehicles used during the Games.

Officials said that RCG China has selected their company’s “Spider MT-uL solution,” an IP-based wireless tracking platform. The platform brings together the hardware and software required to optimize the connection between the wireless device and the enterprise system.

MT-uL is part of Spider MT product family, which also includes MT-GL Mobile Tracking Platform and Mint MT, according to the company. Enfora officials said that the family is a type approved quad-band GSM/GPRS mobile tracking platform, and the devices sit at the network edge and include integrated GPS capabilities.

The MT-uL is a GSM/GPRS and GPS compact mobile tracking platform with 7-40 Vdc input, rechargeable Li-Ion battery and 3 dedicated I/O.

Enfora provides wireless networking solutions that help enterprises access, analyze and leverage information from their geographically dispersed assets.

“We welcomed the opportunity to lend our expertise and technology to this important global event,” said Brian Murphy, vice president for worldwide sales at Enfora. “We are proud that our solution will be used to enhance the Olympics experience for the attendees of this event.”

In June, the company announced the launch of the so-called “Enabler Low Power Platform,” which provides developers with a wireless solution that can extend battery life – from 30 days, for example, to as much as 18 months.
