IP communications systems integrator Continuous Computing (News - Alert) is helping customers to reduce platform lifecycle costs, optimize delivery, and accelerate deployment of NGN, 3G Wireless and IMS infrastructure.

 

Based in San Diego, California, with development centers in China and India, the company offers more than 150 customers worldwide a unique blend of customized professional services, Trillium protocol software, AdvancedTCA and CompactPCI (News - Alert) systems, and BladeCenter hardware.

 

Earlier this month, the company acquired substantially all of the assets of Embedded Solution Partners, a value-added provider of embedded software products and services.

 

The company also recently announced the launch of Trillium Multi-Core, a new signaling software package built on a portable protocol designed by Continuous Computing for the new generation of multi-core/multi-threaded processors.

 

I recently spoke with Mike Coward, CTO and co-founder of Continuous Computing to find out more about their upcoming session at ITEXPO West 2008 and what the company has planned for the next year.

 

2008 has been a fruitful year for Continuous Computing.  We've established leadership positions in two key markets: deep packet inspection (DPI) and femtocells, and we can already see forward to these two markets merging in 2010. In the DPI market, we are driving the trend from proprietary DPI appliances to open standards-based ATCA systems that offer accelerated time-to-market and industry-leading packet processing performance. In the femtocell market, the completeness of our solution and the heritage of Trillium wireless code in the core network have led to an excellent string of femtocell design wins.

 

We are making major investments in DPI and also in the next generation wireless standard called Long Term Evolution (LTE).  LTE offers 100 Mbps wireless downloads and represents true 4G technology. Although the LTE standards haven't been fully completed, we are already developing and releasing early code drops so that our customers can get started with LTE developments.

 

I suspect that they will continue to dominate their own separate markets, with less overlap than most people predict.  Apple is so strong in the consumer market, but is still weak in corporate offerings, while RIM has the opposite profile. Although Apple is pushing towards corporate customers, the level of integration required is so much higher than they currently can offer.

 

Continuous Computing has three sessions at this year’s ITEXPO. My IPTV (News - Alert) session is focused on the tricks and tips needed to successfully deploy IPTV equipment. In particular, I'll discuss the unique capabilities that IPTV systems offer to consumers and carriers as well as how these benefits can be leveraged into new commercial offerings. My IMS session will discuss trends in IMS as well as key market drivers needed to bring new applications to market quickly. And lastly, my colleague Manish Singh (News - Alert), VP of Product Line Management, will present the femtocell integration challenge and the advantages and disadvantages behind different femtocell architectures.
