Cisco has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Saudi Telecom Company (STC) for supplying Cisco (News - Alert) WebEx Web and audio collaboration technology to businesses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This agreement is expected to improve productivity, reduce costs and enhance business opportunities and education.

STC will join Cisco Channel Program as a Cisco Authorized WebEx Resale Partner according to the agreement.

Ismael Hassa, director, WebEx Operations at Cisco said, “This agreement with STC marks a key milestone for enhancing collaboration and productivity within business throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With more than 10 million people throughout the world now using WebEx every month, it is becoming an integral tool in daily business operations and services.”

“It is important that businesses in Saudi Arabia are able to utilize the latest collaborative technologies to enhance business growth and development; WebEx is a tool that can help businesses achieve these goals,” he added.

WebEx enables easy exchange of ideas and information by connecting people around the world. Real-time desktop sharing is combined with phone conferencing, hence it is referred to as Web conferencing or as online meeting. All participants in the meeting can see a shared desktop presentation creating a similar experience to an in-person meeting.

Delivered using the software-as-a-service (SaaS (News - Alert)) model, WebEx comes as a subscription and users can log in and use it from any computer with an Internet connection and also from most smartphones.

Subscribers can invite participants to attend a WebEx meeting via email, instant message or text messages. Participants need not be subscribers themselves. They can join the online meeting by simply clicking on a link in the invitation. They have to follow some prompts to join the Web conference, said Cisco sources.

After the session has started organizer and participants can share documents, presentations and applications or even open a blank document. Recording of both audio and video sessions is possible which comes in use later to update people who were not present during the session.

STC supplied WebEx technology to the First International Conference of e-Learning and Distance Learning held in Saudi Arabia. Collaboration between public and private sectors in e-training and e-learning development was the highlight of the conference.

Eng. Samir Matbouly, vice president for Enterprise Business Unit, STC, remarked, “We are the leading provider for telecommunications services and fully integrated solutions in Saudi Arabia; it is important that we are at the forefront of technology so that we can always offer our customers the latest enhancements in the market. Cisco’s WebEx solution will help our customers accelerate business processes and speed innovation.”

Saudi Telecom Company (News - Alert) provides telecom services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a large telecom operator in the Middle East Region serving several million mobile customers, landline customers and DSL customers.
