Broadband communications provider Charter Communications has announced a new PowerBoost technology that temporarily increases Internet download speeds to enable faster downloads along with a more rapid page-loading process.

Through these developments, Charter Communications (News - Alert) enhances customers’ high-speed Internet experience and provides them with additional value, company officials said.

PowerBoost provides an extra “burst” of speed during file downloads, subject to network availability, for customers using Charter High-Speed Internet Express, Plus and Max services. This feature is not available with Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or dial-up services from other providers.

Rich DiGeronimo, vice president of Product Management for Charter, said, “Our advanced technology enables us to continuously enhance and add more value to our customers’ online experience, making it more immediate, more robust and more enjoyable. DSL simply cannot compete.”

By offering faster Internet upload speeds, Charter has enabled customers to share photos and video online in half the time they did previously and, Charter High-Speed Internet Express customers can upload content at speeds up to 1 Mbps while and Charter High-Speed Internet Plus customers to upload contents at up to 2 Mbps.

Charter Communications launched the Charter High-SpeedInternet Ultra60 service earlier this year in the St. Louis metropolitan area, TMCnet reported.

Ultra60, according to company officials, helps a customer download a 4 gigabyte movie approximately 40 times faster than with DSL as well as helps users to multitask more effectively.
