IP Phone Maker Aptela Enhances Cloud-Based Calling Platform

IP phone maker Aptela, provider of business-class VoIP phone services to small businesses, teleworkers and mobile workers, announced the launch of Aptela v5.3, the latest release of its cloud-based calling platform.

With Aptela (News - Alert) v5.3, enterprise customers will have better control for managing their business communications.

“With the release of Aptela v5.3, our customers now have the enhanced call control capabilities they need to easily manage their business communications, no matter their location,” said Ann Santorios, vice president of Product and Business Development for Aptela, in a statement. “We are pleased to continue to offer the latest innovations in calling functionality to meet the needs of small businesses and mobile workers on-the-go.”

The cloud-based calling platform allows users to create and manage a Find Me List within Aptela’s intuitive User Dashboard.

Written in Erlang/OTP, and using CouchDB as its data store, the v5 platform has the power of cloud computing with horizontal scaling, fault-tolerance and a high degree of concurrency. The platform delivers a set of APIs that unifies communications for Aptela’s customers by integrating calling into their business processes, company officials said.

The Follow Me feature temporarily overrides an established Find Me List, redirecting all calls to a designated phone number. This provides users with the ability to change their standard Find Me List to be reachable at one specific number or extension.

The Smart Find Me List feature will grant the power over how calls reach users, while Find Me Lists can be created for designated contacts, colleagues or department calls. Many customers use this as a shortcut for their bosses, VIP customers or family members.

The availability of Department Recording expands call recording to departments, allowing a business to enable/disable call recording at the department level. This is an ideal tool for coaching and training.

The new platform also offers Firefox Plug-in providing users with click-to-call capabilities. The plug-in adds the Aptela icon right to the Firefox toolbar, allowing access from one’s browser. Firefox is a trademark of the Mozilla (News - Alert) Foundation.
