Opanga Networks, a provider of pragmatic video optimization solutions, asserted that it is expanding its management team to withstand the rising competition in the wireless network traffic management market. As part of this expansion, Bob Wise (News - Alert) has been appointed as senior vice president of Business Development to lead the global sales effort for the company's suite of NetRover solutions.
The NetRover platform of Opanga leverages patented adaptive bandwidth management technologies for a more efficient use of existing network assets. High-quality video files managed by NetRover are capable of moving across the network transparently without any degrading effects to the network performance or negative consumer experience. Using the platform, one can enable the media-rich mobile applications to deliver cumbersome data files to mobile devices without degrading the network.
Officials with the company noted that as mobile consumers embrace cloud services from companies like Apple (News - Alert) and Google to manage and store their photos, videos and music online, networks will crumble under the traffic load. Wireless carriers that Opanga has been talking to are extremely interested in how the NetRover technology enables them to offer cloud-based services outside of monthly data cap restrictions.
Opanga acknowledged that Wise possesses tremendous industry experience that will no doubt be invaluable to its team as it continues to help carriers realize the advantages of NetRover so they can monetize surplus network capacity – and get ahead of the traffic surge from cloud services.
Wise asserted that this is clearly an exciting time to provide practical solutions that help operators manage mobile traffic growth over networks that are being increasingly overloaded with streaming video and cloud-based services. The NetRover platform applies patented technology that optimizes carriers' existing and new networks for immediate payback. Pre-positioning content to mobile devices has never been more relevant than it is today.
Wise is stated to have more than 20 years of experience in the mobile software and networking sector and he was the senior vice president of Mobile Care at Nuance Communications (News - Alert) before joining Opanga. Wise also was formerly the CEO of ThinkFree, one of the first cloud-based office automation offerings, CTO at USWeb, an internet development company and VP of Worldwide Consulting at Novell (News - Alert), a provider of solutions for local area networking.
