NaviSite to Provide Hosted Office 365
By Casey Houser
NaviSite (News - Alert) is known for its offering of business-class software available through its corporate cloud. Its newest offering will come from computing giant Microsoft as it begins to offer hosted editions of Office 365 in versions Business Premium, Business Essentials, E1, and E3.
This partnership will allow NaviSite to offer its clients a full suite of email, collaboration, and productivity applications alongside its established support and migration services. Sumeet Sabharwal, the general manager of NaviSite, spoke in the company announcement about how the cloud provides reliability and security to all applications while Office 365 will offer customers a wider range of choice with regard to their office operations.
“NaviSite’s depth and expertise in the email and collaboration space with dedicated, hybrid, and shared hosted email solutions enables business of all sizes and complexities to take advantage of a cloud-delivered, robust, and secure model,” Sabharwal said. “With the addition of Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Office 365 suite, we have further enriched our portfolio while bringing greater choice and flexibility to our customers.”
This could be a big win for both NaviSite and its associated business clientele because of the breadth of capabilities of these Microsoft products. First, there will be the familiar Office programs of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and their counterparts. Those alone will be enough to get many offices through large chunks of the day. There are many offices that depend on document and spreadsheet editing for everything from correspondence to budget calculation. In addition, businesses will also have access to SharePoint for their document management and internal network functions.
Perhaps the leading application of the group is Lync Online that will provide those same clients with communications services such as voice, video, and instant messaging. One subscription will give businesses access to these services on as many as five devices, and each will consistently use the latest, updated version of Office 365 since all applications will be hosted and managed in the cloud.
NaviSite also indicated in its announcement that it will help businesses migrate their information to the cloud for a better overall experience. Moving silos of email, document, spreadsheet, database, and communications information can be a pain, but NaviSite can help businesses move their data without headaches and get into the cloud where they should find more reliable service and security for all their office needs.
