Crestron RL Group Collaboration Solution Unveiled
By Jayashree Adkoli
Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync 2013-based Crestron RL, a new group collaboration solution for the conference room, is now available in the U.S. market.
As a provider of advanced home, campus and building control automation solutions, Crestron Electronics, Inc. has provided its new collaboration solution, Crestron RL, with a unique capability to link to all systems in a room, so that users have control of the entire room from a single touch screen.
With the help of the new Crestron RL group collaboration solution, users can walk into a conference room and instantly start a collaboration session with just one touch of a button.
As the newest Lync Room System product currently available in the market, the Crestron RL brings Lync from the desktop to the meeting room. With this feature, users can share their desktop with local and remote participants, and view and annotate over Microsoft PowerPoint or interactive whiteboard remotely or locally using the touch display.
Microsoft Lync is already a well-known server-based application. It enables video and voice communication, interactive content sharing, presence, and chat from a personal device such as a tablet or laptop.
Remote participants using Crestron RL can join via Lync on their desktops. The new solution also allows adding attendees on the fly from the conference room.
In addition, Crestron RL is designed to seamlessly integrate with Crestron DigitalMedia and all other Crestron enterprise control solutions and products, in order to provide a comprehensive room solution.
All these features help users to share ideas and notes collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and partners anytime, anywhere with any device.
Giovanni Mezgec, general manager for Lync product marketing at Microsoft, said in a press release, "Crestron's strong experiences in providing great conference room solutions across the world, combined with Microsoft Lync's powerful software capabilities, produce a groundbreaking solution that takes collaboration and communication to a new level."
Available as a completely packaged solution, the new Crestron RL houses Crestron UC Codec for Lync, a high definition (HD) camera, microphone, 65 inch touch display(s), 10 inch tabletop touch screen, and more. Capable of connecting over the corporate local area network (LAN), Crestron RL is easy to implement and hassle-free. It gets authenticated as soon as the user connects it to the network. It also eliminates system designing or programming.
Users already using a Lync server can get access to the system with no additional licenses, fees, or infrastructure expenses, such as MCUs or gateways.
"As a scalable, appliance grade, turnkey solution, Crestron RL can be implemented in practically every conference room across the global enterprise," said, Fred Bargetzi, vice president of technology, Crestron, in a statement. "Adding room control of other devices and systems, such as lights, shades and thermostats, is easy. Add Crestron Fusion software and remotely manage resources and collect data."
