Parents Want Protection from Mobile Carriers: Report

Flash Networks (News - Alert), a provider of intelligent mobile Internet solutions, and RuleSpace, a provider of OEM Web categorization services, have jointly conducted a new survey which revealed that parents believe mobile carriers should offer apt protection for their children against inappropriate content.  

 
According to that survey majority of parents of teenage and pre-teen children do not feel comfortable when they come to know that their children have unverified access to the Internet. Flash Networks and RuleSpace conducted this survey among 250 parents of children aged eight to seventeen from eight different nations. These participants are the subscribers of 18 different mobile carriers.
 
As per the survey more than 73 percent of parents are annoyed about the fact that their children get unverified access to Internet. Around 86 percent of parents are suggesting that their mobile carriers to provide them with a browsing control solution. 45 percent of parents are ready to pay their mobile operator for access control on browsing. Parents have mentioned that they would like to have more control on their children accessing the mobile internet. 
 
The survey has pointed out that 52 percent parents are very keen to have scheduled hours for their children to access the internet, 59 percent parents are willing see the filters installed in order to prevent children from accessing some inept sites and over 72 percent of parents would like to get reports about their children’s mobile internet access from their mobile operators.
 
Stephen Balkam, CEO of the Family Online Safety Institute has said that parents are increasingly concerned about online safety on these devices and they need the tools to control the mobile internet access for children. 
 
Merav Bahat, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Flash Networks, said that children are using mobile devices with mobile browsing capabilities, parents need to have a high level of confidence that their children are protected from harmful content. Restricted access to children will be a social responsibility from the mobile operators to the subscribers. 
 
Gary Thomassen, vice president of Products at RuleSpace said that this survey will assist the mobile internet providers to promote solutions to their subscribers by knowing what their subscribers obviously want.
