Transition Networks (News - Alert) Inc. recently came out with a family of multi-port gigabit Ethernet PoE+ media converters. And now it’s expanded that family. New to the family are the Transition Networks 10/100/1000 Ethernet small form factor pluggable media converters with Power over Ethernet Plus.

"Earlier this year we announced the new SGPAT fixed-optics media converters to deliver flexibility in extending network connectivity while also providing PoE+ and network intelligence," said Curt Carlson, Product Manager with Transition Networks. "Now with the availability of the SFP-based versions, we're able to deliver even greater flexibility for different fiber connections used in fiber-to-the-desk connectivity or to connect remote devices such as security cameras or wireless access points."

The new media converters connect 10/100/1000Base-T networks to 10/100/1000Base-X fiber optic networks. They enable network administrators to support different kinds of optical network cabling and distances while controlling costs and keeping things manageable. And they can support different wavelengths to enable coarse and dense wavelength division muxes.

These IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3at PoE+-compliant small form factor pluggable media converters support SGMII-based copper, and 100 and 1000 megabit per second fiber, SFPs.

Each UTP port delivers 30W of power. That enables these media converters to support high bandwidth wireless access points, IP phones, pan tilt zoom network cameras, and other devices with high power requirements. And network administrators will find it easy to manage link failures and power resets with the products’ active link pass through and auto power reset features.

The media converters were designed for table-top installation. But they can be mounted on a wall or DIN Rail as well.

In other recent news from Transition Networks, the company in May announced that Iron Mountain (News - Alert) has selected it to provide media conversion solutions. Iron Mountain provides data storage for financial, government, health care, insurance and other regulated institutions.
