In honor of 30 years of networking and Wi-Fi innovation in 2018, Linksys (News - Alert) announced its newest addition to the family of WRT offerings: the Linksys Gaming Router, created for Xbox One. The WRT32XB router joins the currently available WRT32X.

The WRT32XB is built by Linksys and Rivet Networks for the hardcore Xbox One gamer, as it integrates the Killer Prioritization Engine (KPE). With this functionality, any Xbox will be detected – including the S and the X. Gaming traffic is put under the user’s direction and, with four pro-grade Ethernet ports, it is 10 times faster. The KPE lowers peak ping up to 65 percent for the utmost in gaming experience.

"With more than $33 billion spent on console gaming this past year, these gamers expect to have the best gaming experience possible," said Vince La Duca, global product manager at Linksys. "The new WRT32XB gaming router helps provide Xbox gamers with another tool in their arsenal to get an advantage over other players.  We are committed to giving gamers the performance they want to beat their opponents."

The international gaming market consists of over 2.2 billion gamers, generating $109 billion in revenue (2017), 31 percent coming from Console Gamers. The target audience of the WRT32XB will get a perk for purchasing this particular router – a three-month membership to Xbox Game Pass – for free. The free access will give users unlimited access to 100+ Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles, such as Halo, Gears of War, and Fable.

The product specs include;

  • AC3200 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi
  • 802.11a/g/n/ac standards
  • 2.4/5 GHz simultaneous Wi-Fi bands
  • 1 Gigabit WAN port and 4 Gigabit LAN ports to make up a 5-port Pro-grade Gigabit Ethernet
  • detachable antennas
  • 512MB DDR3 RAM (News - Alert)/256MB Flash memory
  • 1.8 GHz dual-core processor, and more.

Added La Duca: "The Global Gaming Market Report from Newzoo reports that, in addition to console gaming, mobile gaming is the fastest growing gaming segment at 32 percent, spending more than $35 billion this past year, and with Killer Prioritization now detecting gaming traffic on mobile devices, the WRT32X is the best gaming router for this growth area of online gaming."

The Linksys WRT32XB is expected to retail for $299.99 and anticipated for delivery in February. New enhancements for both the X and the XB will be available by the spring.
