China Mobile (News - Alert) has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a TD-LTE (News - Alert) trial network at the occasion of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Expected to have 200 participants and 70 million visitors, World Expo 2010 will open on May 1, 2010.
The deployment will be the first in the world and follows the company’s first TD-LTE call on a third party terminal achieved earlier this year, Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) officials said.
Alcatel-Lucent‘s TD-LTE platform will provide indoor coverage for 2 pavilions of World Expo 2010, namely the Theme pavilion and the Africa pavilion. Thanks to this, visitors will be able to enjoy advanced mobile services including ultra high speed Internet access and HDTV at the exposition.
“China Mobile’s selection of our TD-LTE solution for this historical event further confirms that Alcatel-Lucent is playing a leading role in the evolution of 3G to 4G and that we are ready to help worldwide operators to take advantage of this technology,” Olivia Qiu, president of Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell and head of Alcatel-Lucent in East Asia, said.
Recently, Alcatel-Lucent secured a $12 million contract with Bechtel Inc., a global company for engineering, construction, and project management, for the deployment of a fully integrated telecommunications infrastructure to support onshore and offshore operations of Angola LNG Limited’s new plant in the Republic of Angola.
Alcatel-Lucent, as per the terms of the contract, will be responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of a turnkey communications solution, along with comprehensive network integration support to ensure the rapid rollout of Angola LNG process plant telecommunications system.
What’s more, company officials said that Alcatel-Lucent will also provide a complete set of professional services including designing, installation, commissioning, supervising, integration and testing services as well as the overall network planning and design.
