This month is National Senior Independence Month, and the creators of Smart 911, Rave Mobile Safety, are encouraging senior citizens and their families to establish a safety profile, enabling independence and peace of mind on both ends.

Smart 911 allows individuals to create a Safety Profile of vital information that includes personal and household data, with household members, photos, medications or medical conditions of themselves – and if they’re pet owners, their pets as well.

When a 911 call is made, all of their information on file will be displayed for first responders, and hopefully will contain the information needed to save a life.

Tom Axbey, president and CEO at Rave Mobile Safety, said, “From motorized carts to stair lifts, over the years, new technology has brought great assistance to seniors and helped them maintain an independent lifestyle."

Axbey feels that Smart 911 does exactly the same thing, and that with this system in place, it would be preferable for “responders to show up to the right location with the right equipment, supported by information that will save invaluable time.”

Other information that can be added to the safety profile includes household details like utilities and access points - helpful to the nearby fire station who would then have bedroom locations and access to gate codes in case of an emergency.

The 911 Emergency/Management Director stated, “Smart911 allows us to not only enhance communication with our citizens, but it also assists us in locating them. From knowing who is living in the house, to the medications they may be on or even pets that may be in the residence allows us to respond to emergencies much more effectively.  In times of duress it can be difficult for a citizen to provide us with all the information we may need.”

“Now, if they have a Smart911 profile, that information will be available immediately to both call taker and emergency responders.”

Citizens can register for Smart 911 for free by going to www.smart911.com, and the information they provide is secure, not searchable by dispatchers or anyone else.

Not until a 9-1-1 call is made is the information displayed to a dispatcher. In over a year, Smart 9-1-1 is being used in 28 states, protecting over five million residents.
