MetaVis Technologies, Inc., a provider of SharePoint 2010 migration and metadata management solutions that help enterprises in organizing SharePoint 2010, 2007 and 2003 environments for improved search and e-discovery, has announced a new feature known as Live Compare! The new functionality will help SharePoint users in comparing SharePoint 2003, 2007 and 2010 sites in real time.
Leveraging the feature, users will also be able to differentiate between various SharePoint sites on the basis of their content, information architecture, security groups and permissions, and to make modifications so that overall SharePoint governance and organization can be enhanced.
While migrating to SharePoint 2010, it is vital for the users to compare SharePoint architecture and items, as it is helpful in ensuring that all content and site objects have been copied into the new environment properly. Without requiring to be installed upon the server, Live Compare! can be deployed in combination with any SharePoint that is hosted or premise based.
Steven Pogrebivsky, CEO and co-founder of MetaVis Technologies, said SharePoint can easily get out of control within an organization making it hard to meet governance policies, and the Live Compare! feature turns MetaVis Architect Suite into a powerful compliance and control tool for the SharePoint environment of the users. Pogrebivsky added that comparing taxonomy structures, site content, items, permissions and various other objects is important for migration, change management and replication; and with MetaVis, companies can ensure that all SharePoint sites are capturing the content attributes mandated by the organization.
Live Compare! is now an integral part of the MetaVis Architecture Suite, and users can benefit from it while comparing and synchronizing the metadata structures and content, such as documents or items, of multiple sites, the company said. Apart from it, the SharePoint administrators find the feature of much use in differentiating between various sites according to list views, site permissions, permission levels, security groups and web parts; and in copying a number of objects between sites or even synchronizing the entire environment from development to test to production, the company said.
According to Peter Senescu, president and co-founder of MetaVis Technologies, products from AvePoint or Metalogix focus on basic migration. Senescu noted that the MetaVis Architect Suite is unique by offering a complete set of tools for designing, deploying, migrating and managing SharePoint 2010, 2007 and 2003 sites and the company’s products do not require server side or agent installation. With features such as Live Compare!, MetaVis Technologies helps companies easily and cost effectively improve SharePoint organization, search and governance, added Senescu.
In April 2010, MetaVis Technologies announced that Citizen Schools selected MetaVis Architect Suite to help with its move to SharePoint 2010. Citizen Schools selected MetaVis Architect Suite including Architect, Classifier, Migrator and Site Creator.
