Gemalto Unveils Ezio Authentication Device for E-Banking Services

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Gemalto announced the release of its Ezio Optical Reader, an optical authentication device that’s compact enough to fit in a wallet. This is expected to offer maximum convenience for e-banking services along with the banking card.

The optical sensor captures all the data that users enter from a keypad for conducting online transactions. This will save time besides avoiding cumbersome typing. The device complies with industry standards such as MasterCard CAP (Chip Authentication Program), Visa DPA (Dynamic Passcode Authentication) and German Sm@rt TAN (Temporary Account Number). It utilizes the high security offered by the EMV banking cards.

Online transactions will be highly secure owing to the Ezio Optical Reader besides being easy to use and transparent for consumers. Users have to present the device in front of their PC screen and immediately the data necessary for authentication purposes and signature generation are read. The optical reader does not require any new software installation. Ezio Optical Reader is expected to offer financial institutions more scope for offering new Internet services.

“Ezio Optical Reader is a remarkable breakthrough that further demonstrates Gemalto’s (News - Alert) capacity in terms of innovation,” said Jacques Seneca, executive vice president of Gemalto’s security business unit, in a statement. “It is perfectly suited to meet banks’ increasing demand to widely expand the possibility to sign transactions, while guaranteeing the convenience of Internet banking.”
