Procera Networks reportedly has installed a 40 Gbps PacketLogic PL10000 system, considered to be the largest single DPI system deployed in the world.
Often, broadband service providers face challenges in providing a reliable and seamless service to their customers. The bandwidth capacities of a network will be tested to the core with the proliferation of Peer-to-Peer (P2P), video, multi-player gaming and other bandwidth-intensive applications. If the operator tries to add more bandwidth, may impact OpEx, and in some regions, additional bandwidth resources may be unavailable or come only at a high premium.
PacketLogic solutions provide deep packet inspection capabilities that allow accurate identification of network traffic such as BitTorrent, YouTube, Skype (News - Alert) and others – even when these applications use port-hopping, encryption, masking or other behaviors to hide their identity.
The new installation from Procera Networks (News - Alert) was performed at a large Tier-1 service provider was supported by the recent upgrades to Procera’s PacketLogic PL10000 hardware platform. While a next-generation Systems Management module with 64-bit capability has been incorporated, the Flow Processing modules have been equipped with additional memory.
“We have seen a growing demand for the really upscale PL10000 configurations,” said Jon Lindén, VP of global marketing at Procera Networks. “Being able to offer several times the capacity of our competitors has proven to be a stronger competitive advantage than I predicted, as more customers are demanding 10 gigabit or higher capacity in the locations where they deploy DPI today.”
Procera Network has also proved the increasing performance under challenging conditions recently in a computer festival at DreamHack. Two PL10005 chassis offering 10 Gbps full duplex capacity successfully managed the traffic that generated 22 Gbps of traffic.
Recently, Procera Networks received praise from Yoigo, Spain’s fourth-largest mobile operator for its PacketLogic Subscriber Manager (PSM), a software suite for broadband service providers. PSM offers user awareness and location awareness through integration with authentication, policy management and billing systems. It’s expected to offer broadband service providers speeds for time-to-market for their new broadband-based services.
