FaceTime's Unified Security Gateway Now Supports VMWare

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

The Unified Security Gateway version 2.2 (USG 2.2) from FaceTime now supports VMWare to enable virtual server deployment, FaceTime (News - Alert) recently announced. According to the company, the existing virtual environments will now get a higher return on investment by deploying USG 2.2 on a virtual server.

The Internet is currently dominated by collaborative Web 2.0 applications and environments that are opening up new avenues for the hackers. Each new tool brings with it productivity, cost savings and communications benefits, but also introduces unparalleled risks.

Controlling Web 2.0 applications and managing information leakage in corporate networks, FaceTime's Unified Security Gateway (News - Alert) (USG) is a secure Web gateway purpose-built for the new Internet to provide a single point of control for preventing malware. With the new USG, IT managers will get the visibility and control for over 2,100 Web 2.0 and real-time applications in use by employees.

“The appeal of virtualization is clear, with dramatic increases in server utilization, and reduced infrastructure and support costs," said Nishant Jadhav, director of product management for FaceTime Communications (News - Alert), in a statement. "Moving Web security and unified communications management into the virtualized environment will increase its advantage even further, as more consolidation results in greater return on investment.”

As the USG provides integrated policy management and reporting at the user and group level, a single VM server can be configured to cover multiple network locations. This will enable features such as centralized management and control and will offer a complete Web and unified communications security solution to the companies. USG v. 2.2 supports VMWare Server 1.06, 1.07 and 2.0 as well as ESX 3.5. It also integrates Web 2.0 application detection and control, gateway malware protection and Web filtering.

The company recently introduced FaceTime Insight, a new visualization and reporting software which will enable IT managers to see the impact of the Internet on their enterprise networks. FaceTime Insight employs a tree mapping and modular reporting infrastructure providing both a bird’s eye view and in-depth visibility into Web 2.0 applications, social networking sites and other facets of enterprise Web browsing. The new software interfaces with FaceTime’s Unified Security Gateway.
