VISI Intros Virtual Dedicated Server Based on VMware Infrastructure 3

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Minnesota-based VISI, a provider of cloud computing, data center services and managed hosting, has launched its new virtual dedicated server product based on VMware’s virtualization and management suite called VMware Infrastructure 3.

VISI’s newest offering was designed to provide a “higher level” of security, reliability and performance than you can get with traditional hosting products, according to company officials.

Leveraging VMware’s High Availability feature, VISI has been able to maximize customer’s uptime by rebooting a virtual server on another physical host in the event of hardware failure, officials said.

VISI can offer customers “greater control” and “flexibility” by providing them their own operating system instance through VMware’s Infrastructure 3. Officials said that customers are able to select the amount of CPU, memory and storage they require, and data is stored on SAN-based storage system.

“We value our VMware service provider partners who work with customers of all sizes to deliver numerous options for accessing cloud services,” said Wendy Perilli, director, product marketing at VMware.

Perilli said that the cloud provides a “unique opportunity” for customers to leverage the best of what VMware has to offer in the form of security, reliability, and scalability coupled with the skill and experience of a hosting provider like VISI.

VISI is a member of the VSPP, and is well positioned to deliver knowledge and expertise to customers from initial pre-sales and consulting engagements to post sales support and implementation services.

Johnny Hatch, product manager at VISI, noted that customers are increasingly looking to the Web as the preferred channel to start and develop their business. He said that as a result, there is a growing demand to seamlessly scale their web presence in a cost-effective manner while maintaining a highly available environment.

“VDS delivers on this by allowing customers to deploy a server environment with only those computing resources they need today and the capability to allocate additional resources as they grow,” said Hatch.

In July, VISI announced the launch of Total VPS, a feature-rich virtual private server (VPS) service. Total VPS provides a secure virtual environment for a company's critical business data and essential Web applications which benefit from increased uptime and reliability.
