Telecom Italia Taps Italtel to Bring Technical Perspective for Network Operations

Italtel (News - Alert) has long been known for a variety of functions, ranging from value added services to global IP-IP communications to next generation network offerings. With that in mind, it's not too big a surprise that Telecom Italia (News - Alert) would turn to Italtel to bring in some valuable technical assistance for Telecom Italia's line of mobile and fixed domestic networks, a measure it recently embarked upon as part of its new Multivendor Project.

The project in question called for Telecom Italia to create a single point of contact when it came to both network maintenance and network refitting operations, and that point of contact would ultimately become Italtel. Italtel was selected, according to reports, thanks to its specialist knowledge and experience in the field, making it an excellent choice to turn to for both maintenance and for refitting, as the Telecom Italia networks contained a wide array of different technologies.

That's reason enough for a lot of companies, but Telecom Italia tapped Italtel for a couple of other major reasons as well. Italtel offers a single point of contact, available 24 hours a day, which means that problems that may occur in the network from time to time—and such problems do occur to just about any network—can be rapidly addressed to within the terms of the contract, maintaining a quality service level agreement (SLA). But just as important, since Italtel has all that specialist knowledge, it's also been able to establish a logistics process around such repairs, which speeds up not only removal of equipment, but also the transfer to relevant repair systems and return to the system from which it was taken. Italtel can offer up service in a variety of areas ranging from core mobile to smart fixed network, optical transport, and well beyond.

Stefano Pileri, who serves as CEO of Italtel, offered up some comment around the new development, saying “We are extremely proud to have been assigned Telecom Italia’s Multivendor Project. Italtel won the bid as a result of our high level of reliability and expertise in managing and evolving networks and our experience in the engineering of complex projects on an international scale. Through this project, Italtel positions itself as a strategic partner of service providers in the overall rationalization and evolution of networks and proposes a relationship based on constructive interaction which is the most successful model in network management.”

Keeping the network up and running is a vital task for a great many companies. Without a working network a lot of work simply can't get done. Collaboration becomes difficult, routing work from point to point becomes the task of feet moving throughout the office, and a host of functions become either unavailable or sufficiently complex as to be next to impossible to operate. When the company in question is a telecom provider, meanwhile, the point becomes even more important as the company provides that network access to so many other companies, and even individuals.

It would seem like Telecom Italia has made a good choice here in bringing Italtel in to handle such functions, though really only time will tell just how good a call it actually was. But with Italtel's body of experience and service offerings, it should go a long way toward keeping Telecom Italia's network reliable and its customers sufficiently happy to stay with the company.
