Comings & Goings: Patton Taps Peter Burkhalter for Europe

Patton Electronics was already well-known for its line of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) solutions and various other communications tools, but even Patton (News - Alert)'s name recognition and high-end product line could use a boost. Patton therefore brought in Peter Burkhalter to serve as CEO of its Patton-Inalp Networks operation, Patton's European headquarters, in Switzerland.

Burkhalter comes to Patton by way of Nortel (News - Alert) and IBM, joining the company back in January as its vice president of business development. Now, serving as not only CEO but also president, Burkhalter will be called upon to drive growth in the European markets. The executive will focus on session border controller (SBC) operations. Patton's SBC line is regarded as one of its flagship product, and since the global market for SBC operations is poised for growth, Burkhalter has a great opportunity to drive more of that growth Patton's way.

Burkhalter recently noted that the market has been pushing for greater use of technologies like cloud, VoIP and all-IP systems, but that many companies are “...still left behind” when it comes to actual implementation.

The numbers make it clear; this is a market that's dying for more product, but at the same time may not have a clear idea of how to get it in place. With the cloud computing market set to reach $127 billion in 2017, the opportunities don't stop at SBC. That’s why a generalist tech figure like Burkhalter could be a boon for Patton. Burkhalter has over 25 years of industry experience on his side, and putting that to work could be just the thing to get companies to implement an all-IP environment.

The market wants product, and Burkhalter has plenty of experience with product. That combination of clear expertise and high-end product that Patton offers could be just the thing to spark a renaissance of demand in the field, especially with a market as receptive to the notion as it is now.
