Session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking carries on with all the vigor we've come to expect from this field. That means plenty of news and a lot of ground to cover, so strap in and get ready, because it's time again for our Week in Review coverage!

First we had a look at BroadSoft, who brought out a new cloud service called Project Tempo. Project Tempo is set to be released in several parts, including the first of these, known as UC-One Hub. UC-One Hub will be available in the first quarter of 2016, and is set to work with the BroadSoft UC-One Communicator on Google (News - Alert) Chrome. BroadSoft won't be stopping there, though, as it plans other releases, potentially with a freemium model to draw interest.

Next, we got a look at PROMISE Technology's FileCruiser system, which recently saw a version 2.0 release. Those interested in trying out this on-premises storage solution can get access to a 90-day free trial, and the system itself offers password protected links to share files readily. The links come with a shelf life, so anyone who lands the link still may not be able to break in, as the link will go dead after a short while.

Patton Electronics stepped in next with a new roster move, putting Peter Burkhalter in as CEO of Patton-Inalp Networks in Switzerland. A technology generalist with over 25 years’ experience, having served with firms like Nortel and IBM (News - Alert), Burkhalter is in a great position to advance Patton's push on the cloud computing market. With the market expected to reach $127 billion just in 2017, there's plenty of opportunity to go around, and Burkhalter may be just the guy to get Patton (News - Alert) to the top.

Then, VeloCloud stepped in, with news that its SD-WAN service is now validated for use with the BroadSoft (News - Alert) unified communications (UC) lineup. This gives VeloCloud a new edge in the field as it works with one of the biggest names in UC around, and gives BroadSoft yet another platform to work with, boosting its versatility. BroadSoft and VeloCloud are currently exhibiting the product at trade shows, so those interested should be able to get a first-hand look.

Finally, TelcoBridges brought out its new Tmedia TMG800, demonstrating its clear commitment to the VoIP market. The TMG800 is a VoIP gateway that can also act as a session border controller, so for those currently using a VoIP gateway who may want to expand, the TMG800 will be ready to step things up. With a host of other features and some powerful new options, the TMG800 represents a big new splash in a market many firms are departing.
