The innovations in telecommunications not only give us more options, they also bring the capacity to streamline costs. Still, the need to stay connected with colleagues and customers is as strong as ever, creating opportunities for telecom carriers worldwide. When a company is able to provide platforms that are scalable, rich in functionality and reliable, telecom carriers gain access to revenue-generating capabilities.

SwitchRay (News - Alert) is one company staking its claim in the industry, providing telecom carriers, Internet service providers, MNVOs, wholesale carriers, and even the small enterprise robust Class 4 and Class 5 softswitches. These state-of-the-art communication service platforms offer integrated billing, a variety of routing options and modularity to support wholesale network peering, a mobile client, PBX (News - Alert) fraud detection software and more.

To talk about the company’s latest foray into telecom fraud protection, SwitchRay’s president, Steve Petilli joined TMC’s (News - Alert) Rich Tehrani in the TMC newsroom at the recent ITEXPO event. The key to the company’s latest release is their ability to detect the calls that come through their switches so that service providers do not fall victim to fraudulent activity. As hackers get smarter and more aggressive, the reality is they will always get into switches, even if they are protected.

In fact, according to Petilli, telecom fraud is actually growing faster than telecom revenue overall. Individuals making a living through fraudulent activity are making more money as a growth business for themselves than legitimate telecom businesses. For that reason, companies like SwitchRay must offer robust solutions to combat fraud and set themselves apart from the competition. For SwitchRay, it’s the P7000.

Said Petilli, “Really it comes down to breaking into systems. What we decided was we would create a system that sits outside the switch; that’s the unique advantage we have. If the switch is actually being compromised, and the fraudsters are in the switch, it’s a lot harder to fix from the inside. So we built a product that works outside the switch and it’s real-time.”
