Patton and Unify Collaborate on SMB-focused UC Appliance

Patton (News - Alert) Electronics is best known for its line of voice over IP (VoIP) solutions and other unified communications (UC) tools and lately it seems to be doing everything it can to improve the prospects of specific markets it serves. For example, last month the company partnered with MetaSwitch (News - Alert) to combine Patton’s SmartNode VoIP CPE with MetaSwitch’s MetaSphere IP telephony software in an effort to improve service provider outlook. Now Patton is doing something similar in order to better serve the global small to medium sized (SMB) UC market.

In order to accomplish this, the company has partnered with Unify (News - Alert) to produce the SmartNode OpenScape Business Appliance (SN-OSB), a single-device UC solution designed specifically for businesses with up to 1,000 users. As a result of this targeted design, the SN-OSB makes it fast and easy for SMBs to implement an all-IP solution.

Both affordable and state of the art, the SN-OSB appliance delivers top-quality UC for SMBs on a single device by combining Patton’s SmartNode VoIP gateway technology and hardware manufacturing expertise with Unify’s OpenScape Business S unified communications software. OpenScape Business S is a pure software solution that was recently updated to provide support for up to 1,500 users. It provides everything an SMB would need to get started with UC, including voice, conferencing services, web collaboration including video, presence, mobility, social networking, and multi-channel contact center capabilities.

"More and more we are seeing SMBs and mid-sized enterprises want to utilize the latest technologies to improve productivity and enable team members to work anywhere, from any device," said Bill Hurley, chief marketing officer at Unify.

Many UC appliances on the market aren’t available with built-in traditional telephony interfaces—namely PRI, BRI, FXS, and FXO. The SN-OSB is an exception to this trend as it connects legacy devices with all-IP UCC services, while supporting SIP trunks, TDM trunks, and SIP trunks with TDM or dual-SIP survivability. In fact, SmartNode quality and reliability ensure interoperability among all systems.
