It's normal to see a lot of news in session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking, but the news this week was positively massive. Huge amounts rolled in, and left us all staggered under the implications. Now that we've got a weekend at hand, it's a great time to catch our collective breath, recover from the onslaught, and see how it all fits together. Our Week in Review coverage is tailor-made for just such a plan, so settle in, and let's run down the biggest events of a week stuffed full of news!

First, Edgewater Networks took on a whole new channel partner in Cohesion Networks. Cohesion will be handling The Intelligent Edge, a system that brings together Edgewater's EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controller (E-SBC) with the EdgeView Services Management System. Reducing costs--and potentially eliminating truck rolls--the system should prove a valuable addition to Cohesion's lineup.

Next, word from Patton Electronics emerged as it recently joined forces with Unify (News - Alert) to create the SmartNode OpenScape Business Appliance (SN-OSB). Geared toward small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with up to 1,000 users, the SN-OSB offers Patton (News - Alert)'s SmartNode voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) gateway and Unify's OpenScape Business S unified communications (UC) software. Since many UC appliances don't offer standard telephony interfaces, that makes the SN-OSB—which does—particularly valuable in the field.

Dialogic stepped in next, bringing its breed of networking software and infrastructure to Bangladeshi telecom firm Global Voice Telecom Limited. One of just a few firms in the country that offers international gateway services, Global Voice got a boost from Dialogic's ControlSwitch System softswitch, its BorderNet 4000 SBC, its I-Gate 4000 media gateway and its I-Gate 4000 Session Bandwidth (News - Alert) Optimizer Core X systems.

Then, Patton came back in with a new connection between itself and telecom titan Time Warner Cable.  The two firms completed interoperability testing, bringing Patton's line of tools to Time Warner (News - Alert)'s hardware and connections. This gives subscribers access to several new products, Patton access to several new markets, and Time Warner a sorely-needed shot in the customer service, making this a situation with nothing but winners.

Finally, we had a look at Mitel, who offered up a new incentive for K-12 schools looking to bring in cloud-based solutions but hadn't done so yet. Mitel (News - Alert) offers up a wide range of tools for those interested, and with the new incentives, schools are better able to take advantage of this offer. Several districts, including Illinois district West Aurora School District 129 and Missouri's Raytown Quality Schools have taken advantage of the deal already.

That was the week that was in SIP trunking, and what a week it was. Our global online community was in a rare form bringing back news, and came close to burying us in it. So be sure to join us back here next week for all the latest, and every weekend as well for our Week in Review coverage!
