Cincinnati Bell has made text messaging available as a home phone calling feature. Their Smart Home Phone allows users to send and receive SMS text messages, review and mange their voicemails and even get the voicemail in a text format.

Cincinnati Bell (News - Alert) provides integrated communications solutions—including local, long distance, data, Internet, and wireless services—that help keep residential and business customers in the Greater Cincinnati and Dayton areas connected with each other and with the world.
The new phone will also allow customers to retrieve information from the yellow pages, read news and acquire local weather and traffic updates.
The company has stated that smart phone functionalities are not only expected by business users but home users expect them as well. Family members also want the added functionality of GPS navigation, social networking, calendar synchronization, music and digital photos and their Smart Home Phone has been designed on those requests.
“It’s time the home phone provided the same conveniences as a wireless phone,” said Dave Heimbach, vice president of product development at Cincinnati Bell. “The Smart Home Phone delivers cool, exciting features for our customers by leveraging Cincinnati Bell’s strengths in wireline, wireless, and high-speed Internet services.”
Smart Home Phone allows users to enjoy their favorite wireless applications with their home phone. The Smart Home Phone simple to use and connects to a standard phone line and Cincinnati’s ZoomTown high-speed Internet. It is a sleek design with the latest in home calling features and personalized content.
Company officials say that text typing has been made easy with the Smart Home Phone and can be sent to any text message enabled phone. Users can get any news or information content that is localized to their zip codes in real time. The Voice to text conversion feature is provided by SpinVox. Any voice message can be converted into text messages and processed with this feature.
The Smart Home Phone handset is $29.99 for customers who have a ZoomTown and home phone bundle. Regular retail price is $129.99. In addition, Smart Home Phone customers receive three months of free text messaging and SpinVox (News - Alert) service, with the option to purchase unlimited texting for $9.99 per month and unlimited SpinVox for $5.99 per month after the trial period.
Cincinnati also plans to bring Smart Home Phone access to wireless address books, white pages, and e-mail in the future.
