8x8 Introduces IP Business Phones at OfficeMax Stores

Internet Protocol (IP) communications solutions provider 8x8, Inc., broke news today at Technology Marketing Corporation’s ITEXPO West 2009 that OfficeMax is selling the 8x8 (News - Alert)/Aastra co-branded 6755i IP business phone featuring the 8x8 Virtual Office suite of business phone services in 400 retail locations in the U.S.

Officials from 8x8 will discuss its latest venture in booth # 401 at ITEXPO (News - Alert), which is currently underway at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The conference and tradeshow, which is expected to draw some 7,000 attendees, runs through today.
The 8x8/Aastra 6755i IP phone phones plug into broadband Internet connections letting users instantly make or receive calls. In addition, the 8x8/Aastra IP phones offer enhanced features, including corporate directory display and lookup, extension dialing and transfers, intercom paging, shared line appearance and an embedded XML browser.
The phones, which are used by more than 17,000 businesses, feature full duplex speakerphone functionality, programmable softkey appearances and LCD display screens. In addition, all models support "Power over Ethernet" and come equipped with dual auto-sensing switched Ethernet ports. The devices use 8x8 Virtual Office, which provides businesses with a phone system at a fraction of the cost of a traditional PBX (News - Alert), according to company officials.
“Small businesses being hit hard by the economy are actively seeking ways to reduce overhead without changing the way they operate or sacrificing their professional image," said 8x8 Chief Marketing Officer Debbie Jo Severin (News - Alert), in a statement. "We are very pleased to be working with OfficeMax to offer their business customers a simple and immediate way to not only cut their monthly telecommunications overhead by 50 percent or more, but to enjoy enhanced features and capabilities not available with traditional small business phone services."
Aastra USA, a global provider of enterprise communication products, will supply the 6755i Virtual Office IP phones to OfficeMax. Meanwhile, 8x8 will manage the 8x8 Virtual Office service, the company said. Additional models are also available on the Office Max Web site.
8x8 offers voice, video, mobile and Web conferencing communications solutions for business and residential customers.  The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company is a Platinum Sponsor of ITEXPO. Officials are exhibiting in booth #401 through today.
At a session held during ITEXPO West, 8X8's Vice President of Business and Channel Development Huw Rees (News - Alert) discussed how business can overcome the challenges of hosted IP voice solutions can present and how organizations can financially benefit from them.
Earlier this year, 8x8 and Aastra announced their joint collaboration to offer co-branded Virtual Office business IP phones bundled with the 8×8 Virtual Office suite. Under the partnership, Aastra will supply the co-branded 8x8/Aastra 6755i Virtual Office IP phone, while 8x8 manages the 8x8 Virtual Office hosted IP PBX (News - Alert) service, TMCnet reported.
