Force10 Networks to Power Network Infrastructure in 43-Story Indonesian Office Building

By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor

Force10 Networks, Inc., announced it has been selected by a new Indonesian office building for its Ethernet switch/router solutions.

When it comes to cutting-edge technology relating to networking, data centers, service providers and enterprise customers rely on Force10 Networks (News - Alert) for their networking solutions. And so did The Energy, a 43-story office building in Jakarta, Indonesia. The building has chosen the global technology leader’s TeraScale core switch/routers and S-Series access switches to power the building’s new network infrastructure.

The Energy Building provides high speed Internet access, IP telephony and an intelligent building and facilities management system to the building’s tenants over one IP backbone. The building’s IT team, which focused primarily around performance, density and ease of implementation, required access switches that could meet with a broad range of demands and Force10 E1200 core/switch routers and S50 access switches helped to accomplish just that.

“While our IT group operates from a single data center, we provide data and network services to a variety of businesses with high expectations and a broad range of requirements,” said Yuyun Priandy, IT advisor, The Energy. “During our evaluation, it quickly became apparent that Force10 is focused on delivering cost-effective, high performance data center solutions that can be easily deployed and managed in heterogeneous network environments like ours.”

Force10 solutions provide a Highly Dense 10 Gigabit Ethernet Network Core.

The IT team at The Energy building deployed the E1200 and the S50 due to their optimum price/performance ratio as well as their 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) port density that enables seamless growth while ensuring investment protection and lower power and cooling costs.

As more services were provided to the growing number of tenants in the building, the IT group believed that the E1200 will continue to satisfy their needs because of the core switch/routers’ ability to scale up to 1,260 GbE and 224 10 GbE ports per chassis with access control lists (ACLs) on all ports.

With support for 140 line-rate 10 GbE SFP+ ports per chassis, the E-Series is the only switch/router with 100 Gbps of useable data capacity per slot in the industry today.

The Force10 solutions are also expected to help in answering the tenant needs for reliable performance.

In addition to capacity, Force10 switch/router solutions also provided a level of reliability and redundancy not previously experienced by the IT team at The Energy. For example, the E1200 delivers an industry-leading total throughput of more than two billion packets per second across a switching fabric capacity of 3.5 Tbps or 250 Gbps full duplex per slot. To ensure reliable performance, route performance modules use distributed control plane processing on three CPUs and provide 1+1 control plane redundancy with hitless forwarding.

The solutions come with additional redundancy features and more.

“To satisfy differing levels of services among its tenants,” said Steve Garrison, vice president of marketing, “The Energy will leverage the non-blocking, line-rate throughput, scalability and redundancy of the E-Series E1200 and S-Series to give their IT staff the tools needed to create greater data center efficiency and improved total cost of ownership.”
