Landis+Gyr, a provider of integrated energy management solutions, has claimed that its Landis+Gyr's Gridstream smart grid solution has been selected to be deployed in over a million CPS Energy electric and natural gas customers in San Antonio, Texas.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, CPS Energy has stated that they provide electric service to 707,000 customers and natural gas service to 322,000 customers in and surrounding the U.S.'s seventh-largest city. The energy provider now has planned deploy the Landis+Gyr Gridstream RF technology and advanced meters and supporting network infrastructure, later this year and complete the work by 2015.
According to Landis+Gyr, Gridstream helps energy providers maximize the effectiveness of their energy management assets through the seamless integration and flow of technology and information. Whether the need is in the latest smart metering and network technology, load management solutions, or personal energy management tools, Gridstream gives users access to a complete range of advanced multi-energy products and systems.
CPS Energy Director of System Measurement & Technology, Anthony Hawkins has commented that the CPS Energy's investment in Advanced Metering Infrastructure over the next several years will be the technological foundation for their smart grid. The information derived from AMI will improve operational efficiency and reliability as well as empower consumers to manage their energy use and make more informed decisions in future years.
CEO of Landis+Gyr North America, Richard Mora added that the company is looking forward to partnering with CPS Energy on a variety of smart grid initiatives as part of this project. Moreover CPS Energy's decision to select the Landis+Gyr smart meter solution proves the commitment of Landis+Gyr to build out the smart grid, not only in Texas but in the greater U.S. and many other key markets worldwide.
Landis+Gyr assists in designing the future smart grid by connecting utilities to important information and control points throughout the distribution network. Utilities are able to offer consumers a broad array of new pricing, demand response and energy automation options that enhance the efficiency and reliability of the electric grid with Gridstream.
