Ericsson (News - Alert) has announced the acquisition of Optimi Corporation, a U.S.-Spanish telecommunications vendor focused on providing products and services within the network optimization and management sector.
This acquisition is expected to bring further capability to Ericsson, while also broadening its customer base in multi-vendor network management and optimization business.
With this acquisition, Ericsson gains 200 highly skilled professionals. The company will also gain a complete portfolio of services and tools and is expected to strengthen its capabilities in network modernization, 4G introduction, multi-vendor, Self-Organizing Networks (SONs) and OSS-based network optimization.
Network performance appears to be at the forefront of IT thinking as operators are seeking to reduce churn. They are also recognizing network optimization as a way to increase quality and reduce cost. For service providers, network optimization presents the challenge of optimizing 2G, 3G and 4G networks and enables them to balance the utilization of these technologies.
In taking on Optimi’s portfolio, Ericsson will be able to offer products and services that provide more efficient planning, rollout and optimization of radio networks.
Commenting on the acquisition, Magnus Mandersson, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit Global Services, Ericsson, said that the added capabilities complement Ericsson’s existing OSS portfolio, which is largely deployed among networks managed by Ericsson.
Mandersson also noted that network optimization is already a core business for Ericsson and this acquisition is further proof of the company’s commitment to support its customers in the transformation currently taking place within the telecommunications industry.
Optimi has built a strong presence in the global space, providing mobile carriers with automated design, optimization and management solutions. The company has blended innovative technology with practice know-how that enables operators to effectively improve network performance while also reducing CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) in 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
The Optimi Products Suite has been recognized for delivering results, accuracy and user-friendliness. The company’s solutions are considered to be a front-runner in multi-technology SONs.
Optimi has successfully built a global business that combines an OSS-based optimization and management solutions portfolio with professional engineering services offerings. Optimi’s solution suite complements Ericsson’s own portfolio as increased demands are coming from operators who own multi-vendor networks that need to be optimized and modernized.
Ericsson plans to leverage its new capabilities to help operators to introduce next-generation technology that will improve overall quality and reduce the associated costs.
