eZuce Inc is the first provider of open source based unified communications for the enterprise. The company has come up with yet another industry-first in form of openUC. According to its developer, this software-only open communications enterprise solution integrates voice, video, instant messaging, presence, conferencing, collaboration, unified messaging, and mobility capabilities to deliver a fully functional and interoperable enterprise communications solution. openUC can be implemented in native SIP to provide an improved user experience, eZuce further informed.

The company officials have described openUC as a robust, mature product which is standards-based, reliable and scalable. The product represents the cumulative development efforts of the original sipXecs project with more than 3.3 million lines of development code and over $100 Million in total research and development investments.

openUC has been designed to provide communications services out of a centralized datacenter to the entire enterprise with high-availability satisfying the most demanding service levels. The company officials said that mid-size to large enterprises having many users in a distributed environment would especially benefit from the product’s functionalities.

“We developed openUC as the catalyst for enabling legacy (IP) PBX (News - Alert) users to readily migrate from their existing Nortel Meridian and Cisco infrastructures to an all software based UC solution. openUC has crossed the chasm and offers the second generation of unified communications similar to what Microsoft (News - Alert) OCS promises but with the sophisticated, feature rich voice functionality the enterprise has come to demand.

With openUC enterprises can not only extend the life of their original IT investments but achieve superior functionality and economics while seamlessly integrating with or replacing their existing Cisco, Avaya, and Nortel (News - Alert) environments,” Jerry Stabile, chief operating officer and co-f           ounder of eZuce Inc., explained.

Stabile further claimed that openUC can minimize IT risks by reducing the total cost of ownership for enterprises with the product’s all-inclusive pricing model that encompasses all available product features with unlimited device support per user in a single user license.

In a nutshell, openUC empowers customers to have more flexibility and options being delivered as an IT application such as email or calendaring and runs on off-the-shelf hardware. As a result, this solution can better protect enterprises’ IT investment than those of vertically integrated solutions from a single vendor.
