As the latest addition to the portfolio of field-proven mobile computers, Trimble unveiled its next generation of Ranger 3 series, Trimble (News - Alert) Ranger rugged handheld computer. Ideal for surveying, construction, field service, forestry, mapping, public safety and utilities, the Trimble Ranger 3 series works best for outdoor or service-related applications.

The robust Ranger 3 handheld computer is designed with a large sunlight-readable VGA display, long lasting battery and show tolerance to rigorous military standards related to temperature extremes, drops, vibration, humidity and altitude. Having an IP67 rating, the computer is dust-proof and can be immersed under 1-meter water for 30 minutes without being damaged.

Making it the computing device of choice for data collection and asset management, the Ranger 3 series includes many built-in capabilities such as integrated GPS receiver, 5 megapixel camera and 1D laser barcode scanner. Furthermore, the asset data captured can be geotagged as part of field service and logistics applications. Location, direction and motion data services are all included within the device using the GPS receiver in combination with the electronic compass and accelerometer.

Other features include a QWERTY alphanumeric keypad and large touchscreen window for direct input. The Ranger 3 device leverages its integrated 3G GSM WWAN, WiFi (News - Alert) and Bluetooth features to connect and communicate with nearby devices as well as the internet and corporate network. This feature allows efficient synchronization between mobile application data, and office servers and field databases.

Providing a robust computing platform, the Ranger 3 handheld allows mobile application developers to confidently deploy their field application. With the capability to support powerful mobile solutions, Ranger 3 includes several integrated features such as Cortex-A8 superscalar processor, 8 GB of Flash memory. Supported by the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system, Trimble Ranger 3 includes a comprehensive Ranger 3 Software Development Kit along with a hardware-specific API.

In a release, Bill Martin, general manager of Trimble's Mobile Computing Solutions Division said, “The Ranger 3 is the most highly integrated, full featured and reliable generation of Ranger we have built. A great deal of experience and teamwork created the Ranger 3. Not only is it the ultimate device for mobile worker productivity, our SDK makes it easy for software developers to quickly take a solution to market.”
