Germany-based Open-Xchange has debuted its Mobile Web App, which gives smartphone users online and offline access to appointments, emails and contacts while traveling.
In iPhones, Android (News - Alert)-based or Nokia Symbian devices that run on a Web-based browser, Open-Xchange Mobile Web App can even work with low bandwidth connections and provide instant and fast over-the-air access to data stored safely on the Open-Xchange Server.
Open-Xchange is a provider of business-class open source e-mail and groupware and it has ensured that users can easily initiate a call by clicking on a phone number from their Open-Xchange address book.
In a release Rafael Laguna, CEO of Open-Xchange said, “We did a complete overhaul of our existing mobile app using HTML5 to provide users with offline, as well as online access when they are on the road.”
“With our ‘Social OX’ features, users have the ability to add contact details from their social networks including Facebook (News - Alert), LinkedIn and Xing to their Open-Xchange address book giving them easy access to that information from mobile devices,” Laguna added.
Company sources added that the Mobile Web App is being made available to users of Open-Xchange Server 6, both on-premises or hosted by a service provider. Being a pure Web application there is no need for installation or download to use the app on a smartphone. Also users can add a bookmark in their browser for easy access to the app.
Open-Xchange specializes in producing scalable and integrated open source e-mail and collaboration solutions for enterprises, academic institutions and government authorities. The company offers on-premises versions called Open-Xchange Server Edition and Open-Xchange Advanced Server Edition besides also providing Open-Xchange Hosting Edition.
Open-Xchange Hosting Edition enables Web hosting companies to provide an easy-to-use and feature-rich application delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS (News - Alert)). This Edition has been architected to integrate into a hosting provider’s existing infrastructure, such as authentication, provisioning, billing, and e-mail storage and eliminates the need for replacement of these systems, explained officials.
