Small to medium businesses (SMBs) have always been looking for simple yet powerful communication solutions that could provide key features, such as session initiation protocol (SIP) trunking and unified communications (UC), at an attractive price point.

Catering to such a requirement, Unify, formerly Siemens Enterprise Communications (News - Alert), has rolled-out an all-in-one solution, OpenScape Business X1 appliance.

Being the latest addition to the company’s OpenScape Business portfolio, the new X1 appliance improves employee efficiency and also enhances customer service regardless of the company size or telephony infrastructure - by offering professional voice, UC and mobility on a single platform, cost effectively.

Available from June 2014, the OpenScape Business X1 appliance can provide embedded UC features for up to 30 users, including key functions such as presence, visual voicemail, voicemail to email, and ad hoc conferencing.

With the latest myPortal To Go app for Android and Apple (News - Alert) iOS, users can even communicate anywhere, anytime. For the reason that Unify's One Number Service along with functionalities, such as presence, voicemail, directories and journal functionality, helps in improving collaboration among virtual teams anywhere, anytime.

The UC and SIP trunking functionality in the new OpenScape Business X1 appliance helps users to control their office phone remotely and allows dialing from smartphone contacts or a local UC smart directory when off-line. For non-Android (News - Alert) smartphones, it offers myPortal for mobile and myPortal for tablet as a web-based solution.

Robert Ehses, senior vice president of product management at Unify, said in a statement, "Enhancements to OpenScape Business will continue as we answer the evolving needs of our SMB customers when it comes to optimizing UC to best serve their employees and customers."

Ian Allmark, managing director, Lloyds Business Communications, Ltd. in the U.K., said in a statement, "It will fill a niche at the small end of the market but rather than being a 'me too' product it opens the door for smaller customers to benefit from features such as SIP trunking and unified communications and at an attractive price point. The introduction of the new mobility app is also a good step forward that will help users to communicate when they are on the move."
