RingCentral (News - Alert), a firm that has been working hard this year to make itself even more of a player in the communications and cloud technology fields took another step toward achieving just this with the announcement that it has acquired the team collaboration app company Glip. Part of the takeover will see RingCentral rebrand Glip’s software as RingCentral Tram, and incorporating those abilities into its cloud-based phone system.

By acquiring Glip, RingCentral has created a very nice mash up of cloud communications, mobile messaging, and team collaboration services. These three services are among the most popular when it comes to the business world these days. There are a myriad of different companies that use one or two of the technologies offered, but a firm that can access all three in one package is going to be getting a leg up on the competition.

RingCentral has clearly taken aim at making itself one of the big players in the changing business world by reimagining its own approach in recent times. The firm expanded its cloud communications portfolio from voice to SMS, conferencing and video conferencing, and now the company is bringing them all together under one umbrella.

"People don't have to use everything we bring to the table, but what we're hearing from IT managers, especially at larger companies, is that they really want one unified system they can manage.” Kira Makagon, the company's EVP of innovations recent told NoJitter.com.

Glip launched just three years ago and has managed to get tens of thousands of users. Collaboration software is gaining rapid momentum thanks to the number of different companies offering it, as well as the number of platforms people are able to use these days. RingCentral Teams is now the newest entry in this market, and it appears to be gaining a leg up in the enterprise.
