Ready for the Next Batkid? Make-a-Wish Is, With Mitel Tools

The Make-a-Wish Foundation delivers wonder and joy to those who need it most, and from the chance to meet celebrities to create a concept that's been resonating since its inception—anyone else remember “Batkid”?—it's one of the most important organizations around. Organizations like this don't run on good feeling, though; they need the same technological prowess as any other. That's why when Make-a-Wish wanted to upgrade its communications tools, it turned to Mitel (News - Alert).

Mitel is bringing its MiCloud hybrid cloud systems to the Make-a-Wish national offices in Phoenix, Arizona, as installed by Mitel partner Trans-West Network Solutions (News - Alert). With the Mitel solution in place, Make-a-Wish can get its desired upgrade, while still keeping most of its current hardware and endpoints in operation. Plus, since it scales according to need, it opens up similar opportunity for the 62 local chapters involved to get in on the action at the pace best fitting conditions on the ground.

Make-a-Wish also turned to Mitel for its MiCollab system, which gives Make-a-Wish staffers access to the collaboration processes that allow even a widely-dispersed organization to operate like everyone's in the same room. Presence tools, personal call routing, and even instant messaging are part of the MiCollab package, among other tools as well.

As Mitel Cloud Services executive vice president and general manager Jon Brinton explains “Seamless, real-time communications and collaboration are critical for organizations like Make-A-Wish who work across multiple nationwide locations to carefully orchestrate wish fulfillment with families, staff, donors and many other integral players. Mitel’s mission is to power connections and our work with Make-A-Wish really crystalizes the important impact communications and collaboration solutions can have.”

It was clear that Make-a-Wish needed a high-impact communications system. While not every wish is Batkid-grade elaborate—sometimes it's as simple as a trip to a Disney (News - Alert) park, and by now, that's probably second nature—wishes that involve the transformation of cities into set pieces probably require some really high-end communications tools. Being ready for the next Batkid could give Make-a-Wish some valuable credibility in the marketplace, bringing in better donations and resources to provide even more elaborate wishes. It's already demonstrated the impact one wish can have—a feature film version of Batkid is said to be in the works starring Julia Roberts—and if it can make several similar wishes happen, that's a multiplier effect in the making.

The next Batkid may be only days away, and Make-a-Wish is now that much more ready to coordinate a massive effort that illustrates the power of a child's imagination and a legion of adults working together to make it happen. A new load of communications tools from Mitel will make the big jobs involved in doing just that that much easier.
