Fast developing information and communications technologies are pushing the global unified communications and collaboration (UCC) market into a rapid state of transition as it looks to adopt these new developments. And the enterprise communication and collaboration segment is undergoing an unprecedented change as these evolving technologies, cloud delivery models, digital-enabled business models and changing personal and organizational preferences transform the landscape. The new report by the Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert) Digital Transformation team revealed as much, when it said that vendors are beginning to leverage workflow integration and ROI optimization through UCC, which will present opportunities and challenges for players in the segment.

Technology vendors, service providers and enterprise customers will have to adapt to the industry disruption that is taking place by developing transformational processes in order to succeed. According to Frost & Sullivan, understanding the major characteristics of this changing landscape and how it will affect and impact the business will be key, along with developing a marketing response that is both timely and robust in order to continue growing in the market.

The 2017 Global UCC Industry Outlook report is part of Frost & Sullivan's Conferencing & Collaboration Growth Partnership Service program dedicated to studying the many different factors customers take into account in the decision process for purchasing UCC. The report offers insights for vendors so they can make informed decisions as to the many different technologies and customer trends that are taking place in the segment, including the application programming interface (API) economy and hybrid architectures to increase their market share.

The changes the report outlines are being driven by innovation in cloud communications by breaking the IP telephony and UC as a Service (UCaaS) silo, which is empowering UCC vendors to expand their service portfolios. The competition across different segments is accelerating innovation and escalating competition with multi-level disruption at the pricing, packaging, feature, functionality, and business model levels. There are now more options than ever when it comes to unified communications and collaboration services and vendors.

“Diversified solutions portfolios and more holistic approaches are a necessity to support business transformation, but simultaneously maintaining core competencies is the key to success. Mobility, device independence, social capabilities, mashups and personalization will be significant elements of future-proof cloud communications solutions,” said Digital Transformation Principal Analyst Robert Arnold.

Some of the vendors in the report that are making efforts to address the issues they will be facing include Vonage (News - Alert), Orange, AT&T, BT, Cisco, Slack, IBM (News - Alert), Vodafone, Microsoft and Tata. According to the report, they will have to integrate UCC workflows, along with high quality and reliability for mission-critical services with the goal of making UCC integral to digital transformation efforts. This will deliver better ROI through uninterrupted productivity, agility of business operations, and performance efficiency.
