There is no shortage of digital communications service providers in the marketplace, but for the vast majority of organizations this means procuring services from different vendors. This not only introduces issues of compatibility, but it also ends up being more complicated and costly. Businesses now want communications solutions under one umbrella that seamlessly integrate all the services they need out of the box. This demand is pushing service providers to merge with a company that has the technology they need or acquire it outright. Windstream (News - Alert) just announced it is going to be purchasing Broadview Networks to enhance its unified communications offering to small and midmarket enterprises to go along with its own advanced network communications and technology solutions.

Windstream provides solutions for consumers, businesses, enterprise organizations and wholesale customers across the U.S. The company has local and long-haul fiber networks of approximately 147,000 miles, which it uses to provide broadband, security solutions, voice and digital TV to consumers, and data, cloud solutions, unified communications and managed services to small business and enterprise customers.

With this infrastructure in place, the local and long-distance voice and data communications, patented hosted VoIP systems, data services and a full suite of managed and professional services of Broadview Networks can be delivered to more regions across the country. Key amongst these services is UCaaS, or Unified Communications (News - Alert) as a Service, which is what Windstream is looking to provide to small and mid-market enterprises.

According to Windstream, this acquisition is going to provide seamless integration of real-time communications tools, designed, delivered and managed on a cloud-based, hosted Unified Communications (UC) platform that will serve its small and mid-market growth-oriented business customers. The Broadview OfficeSuiteUC is built on proprietary software with an innovative, cloud-based UCaaS solution that has integrated a best-in-class customer portal to centrally manage all of the services into one site. Windstream is going to combine this solution with its nationwide network and SD-WAN offering to provide advanced next-generation communications.

Windstream is paying $227.5 million for Broadview Networks (News - Alert) in an all cash deal that will be finalized in the third quarter of 2017. The company said both organizations will remain separate entities and will continue to operate as usual. This acquisition comes after the completion of the $1.1 billion merger Windstream carried out with Earthlink (News - Alert) Holdings earlier this year. Both of these acquisitions will bolster Windstream's ability to deliver a fully comprehensive communications platform that is able to address individual consumers and multinational enterprises around the world.
