Is This Heaven? No, It's Cloud Communications

Spring is right around the corner, and what that means here in the United States is the annual tradition of Spring Training. Starting with pitchers and catchers, then eventually the crack of the bat, cries for peanuts and the opportunity a new season welcomes. Each season starts at 0-0, with playoff hopes and World Series dreams. While not all teams can end the season with shiny hardware, organizations can at the very least ensure communications are living up to championship expectations.

Today, Major League Baseball (MLB (News - Alert)) announced a new partnership with cloud communications provider Mitel (News - Alert) to support the communications needs of all 30 MLB stadiums and the league office; and naming Mitel the Official Business Technology & Communications Partner of MLB.

The agreement includes a unified system bringing video review rooms, press box communications, the bullpen and dugout under one deployment that ensures security and offers call recording, as well.

"Mitel is a global leader in providing the kind of sophisticated, custom communications network that addresses the unique needs of Major League Baseball and our 30 Clubs," said Chris Marinak, MLB Executive Vice President, Strategy, Technology & Innovation. "Mitel will provide a unified communications system featuring the latest technology across all 30 ballparks. We are delighted to welcome them as a new league partner."

The new unified communications system is able to enforce league rules and regulations, ensuring teams aren’t stealing signs (which to me is part of the game, but what do I know?) or other sensitive information.

Deployment is well underway, and Mitel expects the project to reach completion in time for Opening Day on March 29, 2018. The 2018 season marks the first time in 50 years that every Major League team opens the season on the same day – and with a little help from Mitel will all experience exceptional collaboration as they do so.

"Major League Baseball represents the highest standard of performance, and success in the game relies on effective communications," said Rich McBee (News - Alert), Mitel Chief Executive Officer. "As MLB seeks to enhance the game experience for both current and future fans and participants, Mitel is privileged to help bring forward new technologies to improve collaboration."

The cloud is a transformational technology, plain and simple. And, as MLB experiences a phase of digital transformation, I’m sure this is only the beginning of its cloud journey.

Is this heaven? No, it’s cloud communications.
