Apptix, a provider of hosted Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange e-mail, Microsoft SharePoint and business VoIP services, announced today it secured a contract with one of the largest U.S. healthcare systems to provide standardized e-mail services for more than 100,000 employees spread across multiple facilities.

The client will use Apptix’s (News - Alert) hosted Exchange e-mail and mobility services, as well as e-mail encryption and archiving, the company said.

As a result of the deal, Apptix’s user base is expected to grow by 50 percent, company officials said. And with the new client, Apptix will become the world’s largest provider of hosted Exchange services.

“Our newest client recognized that Apptix’s e-mail management experience and robust network will allow them to focus resources on their core mission of providing patient care,” David Ehrhardt (News - Alert), the company’s president and CEO, said. “Apptix’s scalable and flexible e-mail solution has the ability to address the varied needs of their employees at health care facilities across the country while improving productivity and communications. This win is a validation of our work in creating a solution that meets the growing demand from enterprise companies.”

The new client win positions Apptix as a leader in the unified communications space and reinforces the prediction company officials made earlier this year that the company would “see slow, steady, progressive growth throughout 2010.”

Chris Damvakaris (News - Alert), vice president of sales and marketing for Apptix, said the deal with the new client – its largest yet – is a “positive step” for the company.

“This will give us a lot of visibility,” Damvakaris said. “This just elevates the news of hosted exchange. It just raises the tide for everybody.”

Apptix’s average customers are small- to medium-size businesses owners, who request services for 20 employees.  Typically, early adopters of the new technology are small businesses. But with the lates win, Apptix has its sights on winning larger customers.

And thanks to the growing popularity, Apptix is seeing signs of more to come. For example, the firm had three times as many mid-market companies (firms with more than 100 employees) sign with on in 2009 than in 2008.
“We see that this is a natural progression in terms of early adopters,” Damvakaris said. “It’s becoming more mainstream. “

Apptix offers hosted business messaging and communications services. The firm’s hosted offerings include Microsoft Exchange e-mail, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Live Meeting Web conferencing, Microsoft Communicator secure instant messaging, VoIP phone service and online back-up.
