Verizon Wireless Offers Skype Mobile on 3G Multimedia Phones

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

There is intensive use of interactive media in young people’s lives, especially college going folks. Skype (News - Alert), a multi-network Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephony service, is quite popular due to its ease of use and a high sound quality.

Verizon Wireless now offers Skype mobile on many 3G Multimedia phones, making it easy to affordably stay connected with friends and family. The LG enV TOUCH, LG Chocolate Touch and Samsung (News - Alert) Reality join Verizon Wireless’ strong lineup of 3G Smartphones that already feature Skype mobile.

Skype mobile enables students on a budget stay in touch, whether they’re starting at a new school or returning as upperclassmen. Skype mobile also offers a simple, convenient and cost-effective way for parents to keep up with their kids who venture overseas for a term abroad, eliminating the need to set a time to be at a computer to receive the Skype call from junior.

Language support in Spanish, Korean and simple Chinese is available in Skype mobile. It offers students to keep in touch with new international friends after they return home. If students need help preparing for their time abroad before they go, they can use Skype mobile to talk with professors about how to balance studies and travel. Living in a dorm room with a stranger can be nerve-racking, but students can use Skype mobile to get to know future roommates, making the transition to dorm life easier.

Whether they want to plan the dorm room décor or bond over favourite movies, Skype mobile lets them chat for hours and become fast friends. When a terrible stain hits a favourite shirt, students can use Skype mobile to call home for laundry expertise until the spot is only a memory. Maintaining a relationship while apart is tough, but with an “always on” capability, Skype mobile means students never have to miss a call while away from their computers.

Students living away from home for the first time may need some survival tips from older siblings. Knowledge sharing from a big brother, sister or any other family member or tutor is easy with unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls via Skype mobile. Skype-to-Skype calls and chats are unlimited when initiated with Skype mobile from a Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless phone with a data plan to any of the hundreds of millions of Skype users anywhere in the world.

The calls run on the United States’ largest and most reliable wireless voice network, providing outstanding call quality and allowing the app to work with traditional voice products, including Bluetooth headsets. Customers with Android (News - Alert) smartphones can download the highly rated app from the Verizon Channel in Android Market, and customers with select BlackBerry smartphones can download it from through their smartphones’ browser.
