DreamWorks Animation launched its new YouTube (News - Alert) channel today, which is called DreamWorksTV. The YouTube channel will host a variety of original animated series, movie trailers and family-friendly reality TV programs. It will also feature appearances from classic DreamWorks characters including Shrek, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda. The channel was created due to a partnership with digital studio Awesomeness TV, which DWA acquired last year for up to $150 million. The project was overseen by Awesomeness CEO Brian Robbins.
"We're tapping into the invaluable knowledge that Brian has amassed from his success with AwesomenessTV to create a unique, short-form, laugh-out-loud mobile experience for families, said DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg."This is a huge opportunity for the DreamWorks brand."
"DreamWorksTV is committed to delivering original content, from scripted live-action series based on great characters like Richie Rich, to fresh new animated characters like ”Jimmy Blue Shorts” to vlogs and other short-form content featuring the much beloved Shrek, Po and Puss in Boots," said Robbins. "We are combining the DreamWorks brand with lessons learned from AwesomenessTV to create content that will be embraced by families everywhere."
The channel will release up to three new videos each day and debut new programs on a consistent basis. Some of the planned series include OMG, Record Setter Kids, Prank My Parents, Jimmy Blue Shorts, Gorillaville, Report Card, Public Pool and Fifi Cat Therapist.
“Record Setter Kids” is a series hosted by YouTube star JennXPenn, which features kids from all over the country who find wacky records to break. Some of the records include the world's longest headspin, most high fives in one minute, most somersaults on a trampoline and plenty more. The first episode can be seen here.
“Gorillaville” is a slapstick comedy created by Ron Yavnieli which centers around three gorillas named Bobo, Ganto and Claude that wreak havoc and disturb the peace in their wildlife preserve. The first episode of the series is displayed on the DreamWorks TV YouTube channel.
Expect plenty more fun and entertaining videos to come from DreamWorks, a company full of fresh and new ideas.
