This surely deserves to be in the Guinness book of world records! The envious collection of thousands of games from the start of the video games era has just earned its owner, Michael Thomasson, more than $750,000 in an online auction by GameGavel. This collection has been certified by Guinness, which includes over 11,000 titles that Thomasson has acquired over the years.

The auction that began $1 soon caught wind and became $750,250 when the final bid was closed and Thomasson had to part with his envious collection due to family commitments. He started collecting these games from 1982 which also includes the 22 consoles from Sega Dreamcast to Nintendo Virtual boy. The collection is vast, including all the regular systems you have heard of and also the more unique and obscure video game consoles you would need to search for and buy online. At least quarter of the lot is in fact factory sealed with over 2,600 factory shrink wrapped titles that form a part of this collection. You can also find as many as 8300 game titles that come complete with the box and the manual.

The winner of this entire collection is known by the name of peeps_10091970 who is now the proud owner of this massive set of games from the bygone era till date. The two bidders’ peeps_10091970 and Catch123 were in a tight war of bidding when peeps_10091970 made a final bid of $750,250. This auction was launched at the beginning of the month so that Michael Thomasson could meet the immediate financial needs of his family which according to him are of much higher priority. While he is sad about parting with his prized possession, he believes that this is not the end of it and that he would love to rebuild his collection again.

The profile of Thomasson reveals that he had also sold his collection twice in the past - once for the Sega Genesis in 1989 and once in 1998 to pay for his wedding. He enjoys playing games and despite being a 2D animator and game designer in Canisius College in Buffalo, he still manages to devote three hours per week to his passion. He has been awarded with a Guinness world of records for holding the highest number of game titles in the world in 2012. In their counting, Guinness did not take the duplicates into account which means that all the titles are unique and has no repeats. His total was 10,607 at that time and as of today he added other 400 titles to make his final count to over 11000 titles which sold for a whopping $750,250 in an online auction.

As per GameGavel, there were more than 56 bids at the gaming auction website including Palmer Luckey, the creator of Oculus Rift. Luckey bid twice, first at $50,000 and then at $90,001 though it soon became a war between the other auctioneers who fought till the end until one of them became the proud owner of this expansive collection. Luckey who already boasts of the best head mounted assortment in the world also wanted to have the title of the highest number of game sets.
